Microsoft
Exchange Web Services (EWS) in Exchange Online: blocking since Oct 1, shutdown Apr 1, 2027
145 days left — Apr 01, 2027
- What stops working
- Microsoft began phased blocking of EWS requests to Exchange Online on October 1, 2026 and retires EWS entirely on April 1, 2027. Any integration that reads mail, calendar or contacts through EWS stops.
- Who is affected
- Every third-party and in-house integration still on EWS: CRM email sync (Salesforce Einstein Activity Capture, Inbox, Lightning Sync), archiving, migration tools, custom scripts.
- Official migration path
- Move to Microsoft Graph with OAuth 2.0. Admins can temporarily re-enable EWS until April 1, 2027; an EWS usage report in the admin center shows what will break.
- What the official path does not cover
- Graph is not call-for-call compatible with EWS; auth, throttling and some mailbox operations differ. The usage report shows volume, not which business process breaks.
